Not Alone

Often times when we go through trials and tribulations we believe that we must do this alone.  We reason that maybe God is testing us and so we must find the answers on our own.  To ask for help would be cheating.  But life is not a test, God never intended for any of us to go through life on our own and by ourselves.  Even in the beginning God made man and called him good, but then he said, it is not good that man be alone, so He made man a companion, woman.  From the beginning of time people have known the blessing of living together, of working together, of sharing their lives.  Some of the first people were nomads, who did everything as a tribe.  Even as recently as the past century, many families maintained the family business, or family farm.  They know the importance and joy of sharing life.

This is the example that we have from the early church, "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had." (Acts 4:32)  If the early church can share something as divisive as possessions and money, shouldn't we at least learn to share our lives? We would probably agree that sharing our possessions would be difficult and not logistically possible. But as a church family we ought to share our lives. When we come to church, whether we are a member or not, we bring something to that fellowship.  We bring our experiences, our hurts, our joys, or lives.  And when we do this, we are sharing in the joy of the fellowhip of believers.  Everything is better that is shared, expecially the Gospel. As Christians we have many examples of Jesus demonstrating a life lived in community. Jesus traveled with 12 other men, he lived at friends houses, he talked about loving the least of his brothers. Even when Jesus had his quiet time, it was spent in the company of God the Father. Everything Jesus did was communal; should our lives be so different?

We don't have to go it alone.  The tests of God are not meant to be for us to solve on our own.  Most likely the "right answer" is to ask someone for help. Pastor Rachel is good at this. I am not always. When we are working at home she is quick to ask for help if she can't lift something or the task would be easier with two people. I often times feel like I need to accomplish something on my own to enjoy the full benefit of a job well done. But that is not necessarily so.  God made us for each other. Husbands and wives share a life; they are no longer individuals, but a couple.  What God has joined together...

So as a church family we are in a similar situation.  We might be tempted to go through life alone but that is not the best idea. Jesus promised that we will have troubles, he didn't even sugar coat it. "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!  I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) So when we have troubles come to Jesus, come to your church family, there is help available.  No one is going to assume you need help unless we are told about it.  When you have troubles, you are not alone, share your life with those around you, help is available. God put us together for a reason and God does not make mistakes.  So remember, you are not alone, share your life, and enjoy the blessings of fellowship.
